Can I run pc2 1000 memory on an ASUS striker extreme MB next to intel quad core 6600?

Do you show DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) ? That's an extreme overkill for 266mhz cpu. 266 MHz * 9=E6600. Do believe that's a 533mhz (DDR2 533) memory speed, NOT DDR2 800. might be able to downclock that low, but pc2 8000 is typically used for extreme overclocking.

Edit: you might want to look at the speeds of the cpus in a minute:

Then look up overclocking like this:

And others on the network. In the games, there will be really no difference, as for the editing it might shave bad a few seconds (according to the program).

And beside ANY overclocking, you seriously need to hold the cpu cool, including the motherboard (it will also be overclocked) as both are generating alot of steam. And can easily shorten the natural life of the computer. One fan go bad, might be maxim goodbye to all that money.
That board requires DDR2 800 memory.

In several cases you CAN use faster memory, but it will not speed anything up.

If 1000 is the ONLY memory you can find, it might work, but it will only operate at the DDR2 800 speed.

Some times the motherboard won't similar to the other memory, but faster than required is rarely a problem. You CANNOT use anything lower than DDR2 800...

EDIT:

The wikipedia article that the other personality linked to in truth says at hand is a significant performance increase next to DD2-800 (PC2-6400) memory... No mention of 1000, so you might still avoid it. DDR-533 is listed as the right speed, but your system board supports the DDR800...
