What does it look similar to? A mouse!
Look at it. It's sort of shaped like a mouse and it have a long wire tail.



BTW, the first mouse be a block of wood with a button and a line tail. They could have call it a Goofus!
layman terms usually whip precedence in the marketplace place...



'mouse' is funner to say than 'pointing device'..



for instance:

Tech to customer - ...and very soon click the right button on the pointing device...

Customer to tech - ...you mean the mouse looking thingy?



besides, we already have a 'clicker'....
